Azahara Muñoz (Spain) 71 68 64=203 (-16)

How does it feel to win on your professional debut?

I’m so nervous. I can’t believe I won. It’s like a dream come true.

What club did you hit to the green in the playoff?

Six-iron, 175 metres. Normally I don’t hit it that far but it was the adrenaline.

Now you don’t have to go to Q-School.

That’s awesome.

You have to join within 14 days.

Don’t worry; I will. I’m really happy. I am going to go to Q-School in the States and then I had to fly to Murcia. It was a little bit stressful but now everything is much easier.

You have a career made already.

Nothing is done yet. This is just the beginning. I’m going to keep on practising and trying to get better.

Why do you feel that you are a winner? You have just beaten Anna Nordqvist, a major champion.

We were actually teammates in college for two years. She was in Arizona State as well and I don’t know, I just had a good week. The last two years I have been playing pretty well. I gained confidence. I believe I can win now. Before I was second in a lot of tournaments and I guess now I believe in myself a little more.

You turned professional two weeks ago. Two weeks later you win. How does it feel?

I can’t be happier. I’m just grateful that I received an invite. I really enjoyed it.

You shot nine under. What was the key to it?

I’ve been putting well all week but I’ve been hitting the ball pretty bad. Today I hit the ball much better and I hit it much closer and I kept on making putts. That was the key.

Tell me about the playoff. What was going through your mind going into the playoff?

I was feeling really nervous but I said the worst you can do is finish second. Keep calm and just try your best: that’s all you can do.

What are your plans for the rest of the year?

At the end of this month I’m going back to play a mini-tour in the States, the Futures, the qualifier. Then I’m coming back to Spain then going to play the final stage of Q-School. Then I was going to go to play Q-school in Europe. Now I don’t have to so my year is a little easier.

Was it your best ever round?

Yes. I was playing good and stuff but I wasn’t thinking that I would shoot nine-under so I’m pretty happy with it.

What was the key?

I hit the ball much better today and I made the putts.

How did you make your eagle on hole-10?

Driver, three wood and putted from just off the edge of the green.

Anna Nordqvist (Sweden) 71 69 63=203 (-16)

How are you feeling after the playoff?

What can you say? Congratulations to Azahara. She played great. I shot 10-under and gave myself a good chance. I’m happy with my game.

Is this your best ever round?

Yes. I shot nine-under in a local tournament in Phoenix at Legacy this Spring.

Where did this improved round come from?

I thought I hit a lot of good shots the first couple of days and hit good putts but they wouldn’t drop and today I hit them closer. I got the putter going and that’s always going to help.

You looked a little frustrated after the first and second round. Would you agree?

Absolutely after the first round because I was playing very well and I think I was five under after 11 and then I got a couple of bad breaks, hit it in the water and finished with a bogey so I was very disappointed after the first round.
Yesterday I made an eagle on 18 so that felt better. Today, you’ve just got to go out there and play aggressive and see where you end up. I wouldn’t say I played more aggressive than any other day.

How was it having your brother Matthias as your caddie?

It’s been a lot of fun. I play in the States so I don’t get to see him very much but I have a caddie in the States and I’m very happy with that. My brother is going to go back and play.
