Five-time Solheim Cup player Suzann Pettersen took the lead with a 63

A stunning round of nine under par 63 took world no.3 Suzann Pettersen to the top of the leader board at 10 under par on the second day of the Ladies Irish Open supported by Fáilte Ireland.

Her course record at Killeen Castle in Co Meath included seven birdies and an eagle at the par-five 12th hole.

The 30-year-old from Norway, who won the title in 2008 at Portmarnock Links, ended the morning a stroke clear of Azahara Munoz, the world no.50 from Spain, who had a solid second round of 68 with five birdies and just one bogey on the card.

Sweden’s Maria Hjorth is in the clubhouse on eight under after, while Galway-born Alison Walshe from the United States, the overnight co-leader, was tied with Hjorth on two under for the day after 15 holes.

Giulia Sergas and Caroline Hedwall finished at six under, with Catriona Matthew, Becky Brewerton and Lisa Maguire all at five under. Maguire, the 16-year-old amateur from Cavan, is the leading Irish player.

Overnight co-leader Anne-Lise Caudal started her second round at 1.10pm, with Lee-Anne Pace, who was tied for third overnight, playing in the next group that began at 1.20pm.
