Cheyenne Woods is looking forward to a strong weekend of golf as she makes her second consecutive appearance at the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open, which tees off this Friday at Dundonald Links, North Ayrshire.
She hopes that her run of recent good form continues and will stand her in good stead for the tournament’s pro-am format, which is unique on the Ladies European Tour. Cheyenne says, “We’ve had a busy schedule so it’s been good to get some momentum going. Hopefully it holds up this week.”
For Cheyenne, returning to Scotland allows her not only to connect with the ‘home of golf’ but also presents her with the challenge of playing a links course at the mercy of the elements – one which she relishes. While the weather during her first appearance last year came as a bit of a shock, this year Cheyenne is ready to tackle the tournament head on.
She says, “It’s a nice change. It’s the home of golf; where it started. It feels pure and the fans appreciate the sport.
“We don’t really get to play links style very often coming from the States. I think this is the only opportunity I’ll have this year, as the British Open isn’t a traditional links course.
“Links golf is really fun. The biggest thing is just knowing what to expect. I didn’t really know what the conditions would be like, but then I saw the wind and how the course played, with the cold and everything. This year I feel a bit more prepared. I’m going to be focusing on playing good golf, and if I can do that my goals will be achieved.”
The 2016 Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open takes place at Dundonald Links on the West Coast of Scotland in North Ayrshire, from 22-24 July. The event now occupies a prime spot on the Ladies European Tour calendar, sitting just one week ahead of the Women’s British Open and offers a prize fund of €500,000. The event’s unique pro-am format sees 80 amateurs and celebrities tee it up alongside a limited field of 80 of the top female golfers in the world. The 54-hole tournament is played over three days and is the only annual professional Ladies European Tour event in Scotland.
The event is FREE to attend with fun for all the family.
