CAREER PLANNING
INTRODUCTION
At some point in the future (hopefully after a long and successful playing career), you might need to think about establishing a second career. There are ex-LET players who have gone on to work in broadcasting, journalism, event management, real estate, marketing, sales, administration, hospitality, management, customer relations, photography, project management, surveying and many other types of jobs. When the time comes, do you know what you would be best suited to?
GETTING STARTED WORKBOOK
As you look to start a career in either the golf or other industries, this career workbook will assist you in that journey into employment. A career path will mean different things to different people, but the foundation of success is driven by one key factor, you. Therefore, it is vital that you have self-awareness of both strengths and weaknesses and also understand the key factors that drive you. Once you have outlined these you are then in a strong position to make key career decisions.
To help you through the process, a ‘Getting Started Workbook’ has been produced with assistance from golf recruitment specialists, Colt Mackenzie McNair. If you click on the link below, you’ll be able to download a copy of the workbook.
APPLYING FOR A JOB
Your CV
When applying for a job, there’s a good chance that you will be asked to send your potential employer a copy of your CV. As everyone else will have been asked to do the same, you need to make sure your CV stands out. There are some standard do’s and don’ts that you should be aware of.
Attending an interview
If your CV gets you on to a shortlist, the next stage will probably be an interview. We all know the saying, ‘You only get one chance to make a first impression’, so how you perform at the interview will determine whether or not you’ll be considered for the job.
Specially produced guide
To help you with the writing of your CV and to make sure you’re prepared for an interview, we’ve produced a CV and Interview Guide with assistance from Colt Mackenzie McNair. You can download a copy of the guide by clicking on the link below.
